CHAPTER ASIP Meister Yuki Kobayashi, Yoshinori Takeuchi, and Masaharu Imai 7 The ASIP (Application Specific Instruction-set Processors) Meister is an ASIP design environment that provides designers with an interactive environment to spec- ify, design, and generate an ASIP and possibly legacy off-the-shelf processor cores based on excellent implementation methodology. The ASIP Meister generates not only an HDL description of a target ASIP, but also application program develop- ment tools including an assembler, a compiler, and an instruction-set simulator. Designers enter the specifications of a target processor using a GUI dedicated to ASIP design that enables greater design productivity, as designers do not need to be concerned with ADL syntax.
