Preface to the Second Edition After the final draft of a manuscript is handed to the publisher, a large amount of work goes on. First, the book is copyedited and then typeset, proofs are created and vetted, and then the printer gets to produce the actual copies. About three quarters of a year passes between the delivery of the manuscript and the first copies appearing in shops and online.
