9.1 Relationships with Users 291 Sharing Information Some individuals and teams seem to be reluctant to share information about what they are doing, and what's going on in their areas. However, one of the best ways to get others to share information with you is to start off by sharing information with them. In addition to some of the ideas mentioned in the previous section, there are other ways to share information with your user community: F Share a high-level status of all of IT's projects, particularly those that will benefit the user community. The users may not care as much about purely technical activities (such as expanding the SAN), but will be interested in those that benefit users, improve service levels and reliability, enhance functionality, generate rev- enues or cost-savings, etc. F For key users and department heads, provide a deeper dive into the projects that are directly related to them. Of course, as discussed in Chapter 4 on Project Management (on page 121), these stakeholders should be getting regular project status reports from the project managers. But there will be added emphasis if you personally review the status with the key individuals. F Share the results of your own metrics, both good and bad. These metrics
