When interviewing or conducting workshops with subject matter experts or potential system users, you will generally get to hear about many different aspects of the organization and its systems, not all of which will have a bearing on the rules that govern that organization and systems. Be alert for the following: a. terms that are frequently used and/or have a specific meaning for the organization or its processes; b. descriptions of specific processes and transactions; c. allusions to obligations on the part of the organization or its employees, customers, or suppliers; d. allusions to prohibited processes or activities; e. allusions to processes or activities that are permitted only in certain situations; f. data items that are necessary for particular processes and transactions; g. constraints on data items.
