FRONT VIEW: This is a really simple setup using just one strobe and a 39×39′ softbox placed directly beside the subject. Of course, since it’s only lighting one side of his body, you’re going to get a very dramatic look with lots of shadows. You also have to have your subject angled toward the light or they’ll be all in shadows.
LEFT SIDE: Here, you can really see that the softbox is directly beside him. On the next page, I’ve included a slight variation on this look, which only requires you moving the softbox a foot or two, and changing its angle, but it makes a big difference (and it’s perfect for CEO-style portraits).
RIGHT SIDE: I used a larger softbox here, because I knew I had to light more than just our subject—I had to have light fall on the clubhead, as well. Without the club, you can get away with a much smaller softbox, like a 24×24′.
