FRONT VIEW: Here, you can see the two lights: The beauty dish is up really high, and has a diffusion sock over the front of it to make the light a little softer. It’s aimed so it mostly lights her face. The strip bank below it is simply adding more light to her clothes (we did not use a fabric grid over the strip, so the light would spread out a little wider).
LEFT SIDE: This view really lets you see the steep angle of the top light, and it’s easy to see how each light is lighting just part of our subject. I wanted the light to be directional, and all coming from one side, so that’s why they’re both positioned on the same side (some traditional lighting setups would have had the fill light on the opposite side).
RIGHT SIDE: The model was very tall (one reason why she was such a great model), and she was wearing very, very tall shoes, which were designed to make it look like she was standing en pointe, like a ballerina. So, the beauty dish had to be really high.
