Chapter 11. Writing Instructions

Chapter 11. Writing Instructions

You can find instructions on the Web for just about anything. Search and you will find. Do you need to entertain a few 11-year-olds for an afternoon? Google “mad science projects” to learn how to create volcanic crazy foam, green slime, and giant smoking bubbles. You’ll find instructions for hundreds of wacky science adventures. Do you want to know how to prepare borscht soup or treacle tarts? Do you want insider tips on how to apply grip tape to your skateboard? Do you want to know how to drape a sari or tie a scarf? Have you been invited to a wedding reception, but you can’t remember how to dance?

There are good reasons why you can find so many instructions. Your readers are hungry to understand how things work, learn new skills, and enjoy creative escapades with friends and family. Also, printed instructions that come in the box with purchased items are frequently lame, so readers turn to the Web where they expect to find better, more up-to-date information.
