What first comes to mind when you hear the words style and grammar? For style, perhaps you think about stylish people, like Coco Chanel or Thelonious Monk. Chanel is noted for her classic simplicity and especially for introducing The Little Black Dress. Monk’s improvisational style as a jazz pianist carried over to his attire. He could pull off wearing a classic suit with a Mandarin hat and sunglasses. For grammar, you’re more likely to think of a schoolmarm, the stereotyped prim and proper English teacher, brandishing a ruler and wearing thick knee socks, ugly shoes, a pleated skirt, and a starched white blouse.
