8.10. Conclusions

Greater flexibility and time to market are driving many organizations toward development techniques that optimize their team interactions and their connection with stakeholders. The resulting agile development approaches are being widely discussed and seeing broad adoption across the software industry.

In this case study, I examine a broad view of agility as it applies to enterprise software delivery. In particular, I describe how agility at scale can be realized, providing practical guidance on adapting agility in complex enterprise software delivery organizations. This detailed illustration has emphasized many key factors in scaling agile practices for enterprise delivery.

As with many enterprises, Danske Bank has made a major commitment to agile delivery practices as a primary way to deliver more effective enterprise systems to its business stakeholders on a more frequent basis. Furthermore, the focus for Danske Bank has been to address the challenges it faces across all aspects of software delivery, including both maintenance and new software development efforts. Agile practices have been found to be effective across this spectrum of activities.
