Natural frames include tree branches that frame a building or other natural elements, such as a pair of trees. Although easy to find, natural frames are nonetheless effective and beautiful. They say something about the landscape or the time of year, depending on the color of the leaves and flowers. Postcards are notorious for using natural elements to frame man-made structures.
This photo was taken at Tiananmen Square in Beijing (11.6). Originally, I was standing right next to the wall looking up. From that angle, the building appeared very tall, but not interesting. By backing up, I was able to use the tree branches to frame the Forbidden City and also cover some of the white space above. To my good fortune, a nice couple came peacefully riding along. I waited for them to cross my frame to show the contrast of a modern society against an ancient world. The sizable difference between the couple and the magnificent structure also helps emphasize contrasts.
