Technique 4: Injecting Expression and Balancing Energies

Getting great expressions in your photographs requires more than just a few tips and tricks. Over the course of my career, the expressions of my clients have become more and more dynamic, natural, and most importantly, believable. I say believable because let’s face it, when you ask someone to laugh on command it’s not exactly a candid moment, is it?

Coaxing a truly candid expression on command requires energy. It’s quite exhausting having to react naturally over and over again in a photo shoot. The reason my clients now have beautiful and believable expressions when I photograph them is because they trust me. They have complete confidence in my ability. They see me as an artist. Most importantly, they respect me as an expert. There is a certain unspoken confidence between us that makes it more pleasant to work together.
