17. Posing Chart > Walking

Walking

17.15

Location: You’ll find that walking shots are common when photographing couples. But in my opinion, asking a couple to walk can yield a contrived-looking photo. Before I decide to take a walking photo, a strong environmental or architectural element must exist. In this example, I circled the trees because they are not interesting enough for a walk pose to work. If the leaves were changing color or they were special trees like California redwoods, that would be a different story.

Body: Another problem is that both feet should be making contact with the ground. The groom’s left foot is not touching the ground, making his entire left leg look awkward.

Hands: The bride’s left arm is at a 180-degree angle and her right arm is bent at a 90-degree angle. Both are undesirable angles.
