Step-by-Step Practice Session

This typical practice session shows how and why you should take out your camera in the middle of the week and spend 30 minutes improving your professional skills.

Situation

After photographing the groom for a beautiful wedding in San Diego, I proceeded to the bride’s room to begin her getting-ready coverage. The hotel had Swiss coffee–colored walls, which are off-white and reflect much of the sunlight. After the bride put on her wedding dress, it was time for some portraits of her. I usually do a variety of poses for the bride portraits: some wide-angle shots to show off her dress, some close up, sitting, looking at the camera, and a few not looking at the camera, and finally a creative portrait to finish the mini-session.
