309: Thou shall check that CMYK colors are not set to print as spot colors

Commentary I’ve encountered situations where artwork set up by a third party has contained many colorcoded sections. However, not all the colors were CMYK (when they should have been) but spot colors. So a CMYK print job is set up to print with over 30 spot colors—an impossible specification! The problem is easy to fix and checking that colors are CMYK should always be added to your checklist as you finalize the artwork. In InDesign it’s a quick action to highlight the color and switch the color to CMYK. Not doing so can cause confusion and possibly incur costs if a printer has to adjust your files.
