Tips for Reading Email

If you’ll be managing multiple email accounts with your iPhone or iPad, it’s important to understand that while the Mail app enables you to view email messages in all your accounts simultaneously (when you’re looking at the All Inboxes view), the app actually keeps messages from your different accounts separate.

Also, as you view your incoming email messages, by default, the app groups emails together by message thread, allowing you to follow an email-based conversation that extends through multiple messages and replies. When turned on, this feature displays emails in the same thread in reverse chronological order, with the newest message first, and then displays all previous emails and your replies in sequence.
