Write information only when you understand it, and then verify it

By the time you publish information, you must understand the subject well enough that you can tell users what they need to know. Sometimes you can understand the subject quickly and be able to write about it accurately and clearly without much difficulty. At other times, the subject is new and not well documented.

Perhaps a software product is not available for you to try, or technical experts are unable to explain the subject to you at the beginning of the writing cycle. When you can't get first-hand experience with a product or can't get help from technical experts, you must start with what you do understand to write your first draft.
