Chapter 1. Laying the Groundwork > Laying the Groundwork Summary

Laying the Groundwork Summary

In this chapter, you reviewed the importance of laying a proper foundation for the virtual infrastructure. There is a great deal of planning that accompanies a virtual infrastructure project. You need to perform some level of capacity planning to know what hardware you will need for the project. You need to determine the requirements, constraints, and assumptions for the solution. Along those lines, some questions need to be asked:

• What type of architecture (traditional 1GbE, converged rackmount, converged blade) is most appropriate for the solution?

• Do you have the environmental requirements to deploy the solution (for example, space, power, and cooling)?

• How will you provide redundancy for the solution?
