Plotting Social Mood

Several years ago, before I had fully developed the Horizon Preference model I use today, I offered the chart in Figure 8.7 in a client presentation.

My goal with the chart was to help one of my clients appreciate the dramatic changes in behavior I had seen between the peak in mood in 2000 and the 2009 market low. Where 2000 was “us, everywhere, forever,” the bottom of the banking crisis was unequivocally “me, here, now.”

In 2011, as I was “socializing” many of the concepts of this book, I had a conversation with Dave Allman at Elliott Wave International (EWI), and I offered the same chart on a conference call. After seeing the chart, Dave immediately asked me to stop my presentation while he emailed me a variation of this chart in Figure 8.8 that EWI had done for its clients.
