Becoming Familiar with iMovie '11 1 Plug in your external hard drive to your Mac's USB, Thunderbolt, or FireWire port. The hard drive's icon will appear on your desktop once your Mac has recognized it. Navigate to your Movies folder on your Mac's hard drive (Mac HD> Users> Your username> Movies). In- side the Movies folder you'll find two folders, one called "iMovie Events" and one called "iMovie Projects." Drag both folders to your external hard drive. The folders and their enclosed files, including the raw video footage you imported to iMovie, will copy to the external hard drive. 2 3 iMovie's Preferences Like any modern application, iMovie has a set of preferences, or settings that allow you to alter the way the app behaves or displays information. Throughout the book we'll mention the preferences where appropriate. Just know that if you do need to access them, you can always do so from iMovie's menu bar. Simply choose iMovie, Preferences. And don't worry about playing around with the preferences. Anything you change can always be changed back. Keeping iMovie Up to Date Just because you already have iMovie '11 on your computer or have installed iMovie '11 from a DVD or the Mac App Store in the past doesn't mean you necessarily have the latest version of iMovie '11.
