There are a few important things to keep in mind before you start using iMovie’s touch-up tools. First, all the tools discussed in this chapter apply to the clip as a whole. You can’t just pick out 3 seconds of a 10-second clip to adjust the color on. All the corrections you make are applied to the entire clip, whether it’s cropping, rotation, stabilization, or color correction.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t just apply a correction to only a portion of the footage, however. If you have a 10-second clip, and in the middle of your clip you want the sky to turn red for 4 seconds, you can do that. You just need to divide the 10-second clip into three clips, separating the middle section so you can apply corrections just to that part. Although in iMovie you’ll see that 10-second portion of your project as three separate clips, your audience won’t know the clips were ever divided.
