Using iTunes’ Wi-Fi Sync

image

Before iOS 5, you always had to plug in your USB cable to your Mac or PC to sync new media and to back up your iPhone. Now, you only need to plug it in one more time, and just long enough to enable Wi-Fi Sync. In the Summary tab of iTunes, under Options, turn on the Sync with This iPhone Over Wi-Fi checkbox. Once you enable it, you can disconnect your iPhone (let the current sync finish first) and, from that point on, whenever you connect your iPhone to a power source, it will begin syncing with your computer via Wi-Fi. You will need to have iTunes running on your computer for Wi-Fi Sync to work. You can also initiate a wireless sync whenever you want by going into the Settings app, tapping on General, tapping on iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, and then just tapping the Sync Now button. It even works with more than one computer, keeping in mind that you can only sync one category (Data, Media, Photos, Apps, etc.) to one computer at a time. In my case, I sync media (music, movies, tones, books, podcasts) from my iMac and everything else from my MacBook Pro.
