Depending on your carrier and physical location, you may just be in a bad reception area. But, if you feel that it’s happening more often than it should, here are some things to remember: Your iPhone 4 or 4S has antennas along the sides of the phone. Many are saying that physical contact (i.e., your hand) covering the little black strips on the sides will lower your reception. If you’re having issues, you may want to invest in a case or Apple’s iPhone 4 Bumper cover to help reduce this issue (it may be free to you depending on when you bought your iPhone 4). Also, make sure that you’ve got the latest software update for your iPhone (go to your Settings app and, under General, tap on Software Update). Another thing to try is resetting your Network settings (under General settings, under Reset at the bottom, tap on Reset Network Settings). Some find this instantly fixes their problems. Please note that when you do this, it will also blow away any saved Wi-Fi passwords.
