We’ll start the book with a few chapters on how wireless works. Nothing too deep or complicated; just a high level overview to provide some information that we think will help you to decide which type of wireless home network you want, where you want to use it, and how you put it together.

Chapter 1, “How Wireless LANs Work,” is a primer on how wireless networking works. We’ll cover how the pieces talk to each other and how the network sends and receives data to and from the Internet.

Chapter 2, “Wireless Standards: What the Letters Mean,” untangles all the different wireless standards. We cover what the letters mean, how they are different from each other, and what the pros and cons of each are. We also tell you what happened to the “missing” letters.
