Medical diagnostics industry

The medical diagnostics industry covers laboratory testing equipment and supplies, as well as over-the-counter consumer diagnostics, such as pregnancy tests and sophisticated diabetes/blood glucose monitors.¹⁵ Traditional descriptions of the medical diagnostics segments focus on the product type and where the test is conducted—in the hospital, in the doctor’s office, or at home. But newer technologies and secure, web-based communication often blur those distinctions. Let’s examine two dominant and rapidly changing segments: laboratory and point-of-care (POC) test products and services.
