Golden age scenario

We now turn to the other side of the scenario spectrum and paint a very positive view of possible developments in biomedicine. As before, the aim is not to make precise predictions but bound the range of possible outcomes in terms of the most optimistic view. The actual future in 2025 will likely be in between the two boundary scenarios depicted in this chapter.

The view from 2025

Remarkable achievements in molecular science and other areas of medicine have ushered in a golden age of medicine. Biomedical solutions are making it possible to cure or control most diseases, extend longevity, and improve the quality of life. Previously fatal conditions, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease, are increasingly being conquered. People are living longer, healthier, and more productive lives, thanks to bioscience technologies.
