Working with Apps 85 Gadgets Are Still Around, Too You might be a bit puzzled by all the Windows 7 features that are there just under the surface of Windows 8 Consumer Preview.You can still add to your Windows 8 desktop all the gadgets you enjoyed in Windows 7 by tapping and holding or right-clicking the desktop, pointing to or tapping Gadgets, and choosing the gadg- et you want to add. Note that the gadget won't be visible on the Windows 8 Start screen, but it will be there waiting for you any time you return to the desktop. Adding Programs At Startup Even though the Windows 8 Start screen is a different animal from the Windows 8 desktop (which resembles what you've seen in Windows 7), you can still add apps you use regularly to your Startup folder if you like. You may need to experi- ment a bit to see which apps work and which don't. Dropbox, for example, loaded fine during startup, but Windows Paint (my old friend) gave me an error.
