Black stuff Industry term for descriptive passages. Business Technique of writing props into scenes for actors to work with, making dialogue dominated scenes more active and physical. Character arc Curved line tracing the changes and development of character over the course of the screenplay. Cinéma vérité A filmmaking technique designed for a scene to be filmed with as little intrusion of the camera as possible. Close-up (C.U.) A camera shot which emphasizes some part of the actor or an object. Complication An unexpected situation which threatens to thwart the hero's objectives. Used to add texture to a story. Crosscut The technique of alternating between two scenes in different locations
