Anyexpressionismororiginalpersonalstyleofyourownwilltendtogetinthewayofclearly communicatinginformation.Photographsareneededasfactual,analyticaldocuments,perhaps forforensicormedicalevidence,militaryorindustrialresearchanddevelopment.Youwill probablybeastaffphotographeremployedbythegovernment,auniversityoranindustrial researchinstitute.Photographicskillsrequiredincludephotomacrography,photomicrography, infraredandultravioletphotography,photogrammetry,remotesensing,thermalimaging (Figure14.7),high-speedrecordingandotherformsofphoto-instrumentation,includingvideo. Thereisalsoagreatdealofroutinestraightphotographyonlocationandinthelaboratory. Youwillbeexpectedtohavemorethanjustphotographicknow-how.Asaclinical photographer,forexample,youwillmostoftenworkinahospital'smedicalillustration department.Inadditiontophotographicskillsinseveralappliedimagingareas,youneeda workingknowledgeofanatomy,physiologyandanunderstandingofmedicalterms,aswell asconcernforpatientsandaninterestinmedicinegenerally.Youmayalsotakephotographs ofthehospitalstaffandfacilitiesorpublicrelationsphotographs.Asascientificphotographer youshouldhaveasufficientlyscientificbackgroundtounderstandadvancedequipmentand appreciateclearlywhatpointsscientistcolleagueswanttoshowintheirreportsandspecialist
