CHAPTER Elements of MIDI Orchestration 5 5.1 IntrODuCtIOn In the first four chapters we learned several concepts and techniques related to the practical aspects of sequencing, such as MIDI messages, editing techniques, quantization options, audio and MIDI track use, and synchronization procedures. While these subjects represent a very important part of the knowledge required to achieve a higher standard in modern and contemporary production using MIDI/audio sequencers, the musi- cal aspect of such productions also plays an extremely important role. The orchestration techniques involved in the realization and production of a project based on MIDI and audio are crucial to obtaining professional final results. I have referred to the equipment involved in the contemporary composition and production proc- ess as "the orchestra of the twenty-first century".
