Mailing List 159 · anyone who has bought work · anyone who has expressed a genuine or informed interest in the work · anyone whose gallery shows related work or where the artist can realistically see him- or herself showing in future · other artists working in a similar way, with similar subject matter or techniques (for example, it is useful for a landscape photographer to keep in touch with other land- scape photographers and keep them informed about the work) · (if the work is subject based) any organizations or individuals who work in that field (whether the subject is skateboarding or homelessness, there will be people and organizations motivated to come to an exhibition for what it has to say) This sort of list has two functions. It is first a list of friends who will be personally supportive and who can be depended on to arrive at a private view in good time and stay late to help clear up if necessary. They can be asked to talk to unknown guests or run out to fetch something and will be there to take the artist out to dinner afterward if needed.
