Digital Photography Best Practices and Workflow

“Everything flows and nothing stays.”

Heraclitus

In the nostalgic days of analog photography, the amount of published information was minimal by today’s standards. Many of the techniques used were recipes passed on from person to person, often producing barely legible copies from being duplicated so many times. How many books did you use if you were a student of analog photography? There were a handful of texts, serving as the “Photo Bibles” that were used over and over again. The books we learned the most from—for Patti, Ansel Adam’s The Camera, The Negative, The Print and for Richard, David Vestal’s The Craft of Photography, and for both of us, the Time-Life Books Photography Series—gave the information you needed to create your own vision. BUT these were the definitive photographic workflow for black and white and color analog photography. With the evolution of digital technology, there has been a concurrent explosion of publishing by large publishing groups as well as independents. In addition to the traditional book, there are now websites, downloadable podcasts, PDFs, DVDs, snippets of imaging TV spots, and so on.
