Control and Monitoring Chapter 6 91 So, basically, am I saying you shouldn't get a mixing console? No, just don't think that you have to get a mixing console. There are many reasons to get and use a mixing console in a recording studio. Some people who have learned to mix on a mixing console want that functionality in their studio. Other people already have a console for live sound use and want to utilize it in the studio also. Finally, there are people who want a console because it looks big and impressive. There are lots of people who keep their old consoles in their studio just for the "wow factor." The console usually isn't connected to anything or it is used very minimally, but it looks cool. My final disclaimer is that even for these legitimate reasons I have seen many people go through crazy hybrid setups to utilize the features in both a software DAW and a mixing console simultaneously. Most of the time it is a hassle and just not worth it. Control surFaCes
