Chapter 12: Clouds > Cloud Tabs - Pg. 201

Clouds Cloud Layers Within the Atmosphere dropdown menu on the top menu, you'll find a selection for "Add Cloud Layer." When you choose it, the Atmosphere Editor with the Clouds tab will pop up, and on top of that the material browser will open inside the Clouds collection. All of these different cloud materials could be used for cloud layers, but some of them don't work well. You'll also find that there are, mixed up in all of this collection, four different kinds of cloud materials. The way each of them acts can have a big difference on how your sky looks. Standard clouds are based on the technology when only the Standard atmosphere was available. They are a material applied to an infinite plane with no thickness that can be set at any altitude. Volumetric clouds are also flat material layers on infinite planes, but they simulate thickness and internal lighting using an algorithm to affect the light that comes through them. These will tend to give you a more realistic effect than standard clouds, but take a bit more time to calculate. Spectral clouds actually have thickness. Vue calculates their appearance
