Chapter 3: Terrains > Importing Terrains - Pg. 36

Vue 7: From the Ground Up The first group of effects deals with rubble in different scales. Both Grit and Gravel add little pits and bumps all over the terrain, although grit is finer. Also, there is a very slight difference in how they apply to the terrain. Gravel goes mostly on slopes while grit applies mostly on flat surfaces, although enough of either will apply all over and become spikey. Pebbles and Stones are random, irregular bumps that grow into pillars if the button is held down too long. The next effects give you certain features, human-made or natural, that might be part of a landscape. Peaks pull down lower elevations and exaggerate higher ones to create peaks. Plateaus will create flat areas at the highest elevations. Terraces are relatively small scale and work almost like the Erode option, adding plateaulike effects on peaks while diffusing into flat terraced areas on slopes and growing these out at the base of steep slopes. Applied well, this option can make nice beaches. Stairs simply "digitize" the slope. The last group has some miscellaneous effects. Fir trees are great for getting that fringe of trees visible at a distance on mountains. Craters give you a nice lunar or primitive earth appearance. The Sharpen effect will increase the steepness of slopes, while leaving less-steep slopes alone. Depending on
