Hospitals and Medical Centers Color television had its first practical demonstration not by a television network but at the 1949 convention of the American Medical Association. As reported in Life Magazine (June 6, 1949), CBS designed a remote-controlled color camera for use in the operating room, and they transmitted the signal to 20 specially built receivers at the convention in Atlanta.
