PRODUCTION STILLS

A green screen background may be made of muslin cloth, or it could be seamless photo paper, as shown here. Seamless comes in either a six-foot or a nine-foot roll, and are 36 feet long. One advantage of using seamless, rather than cloth, is that cloth can wrinkle. If the paper develops a wrinkle, tear it off and advance the roll to a clean area.

The author shows a production assistant how to hold a microphone boom pole, sometimes called a “fishpole.” The pole enables the microphone to be positioned just above camera range. In this case, an actor, who is not in this particular scene, doubles as a production assistant. Union crew regulations usually prohibit this practice, but if yours is a nonunion shoot, an actor may be willing to help in this capacity.
