Lessons from the Acetate Era

Drew Gurian

ALLOW ME TO TAKE YOU down analog memory lane for a bit, back to when nobody knew what a pixel was, and picture-making tools were just this side of what you might find in a blacksmith’s shop.

Imagine shooting a press conference back in, say, the seventies or eighties. It’s a quickie, emergency press conference where the governor of whatever fair state will step to the microphone and admit to certain, well, discrepancies in his personal life. Hard to believe, right? I mean, this could never happen in real-time American political theater, but bear with me and indulge this fantasy. The gov is a married father of three and has championed family life, God, weekend barbecues, the flag, and church on Sundays, and he’s campaigned on a pledge of cleaning up the streets to make things safe for good, decent folks. He’s also a pretty forceful advocate for keeping our borders tighter than a nun’s corset, as they say.
