Upgrading a Server Farm

Up until now we have been working with standalone installations. Now we will look at what is involved in upgrading a server farm. The most direct route for upgrading a 32-bit WSS 3.0 server farm to a 64-bit SharePoint Foundation server farm is to use the database-attach method. The process is similar to a database-attach upgrade for a standalone farm, but since there is usually more than one machine in a server farm, there will be a few extra steps involved.

The Prep Work

The steps that need to be done to prepare for upgrading a server farm to SharePoint Foundation are the same as discussed earlier for upgrading a standalone installation. Essentially, before attempting to upgrade to SharePoint Foundation, you should do the following:
