Information Literacy

What does it mean to be information literate? While there are a number of definitions of information literacy, it boils down to the ability to efficiently and effectively determine what information is needed, then access, evaluate, use, and manage that information in an ethical manner.

It may be hard to believe, but not that long ago, we had access to a much more limited amount of information. Then along came the Web and today we're faced with a tremendous amount of information every day. While it is great to have access to almost unlimited information, this comes at a price; we must learn how to deal with this information. Think about it this way. If you do not have any money, understanding investments and money management is not very important. But once you start to make a good living, you need to pay a lot more attention to these matters.
