Team Effort and Skills

The TMT is likely to be constituted of people with high levels of motivation, given their backgrounds, experience and career success. However, a crucial issue for the top team is the extent to which their motivations are focused on the achievement of success in their functional areas (finance, production, sales) rather than on supporting the achievement of success of their fellow team members and the organization as a whole. Of course there will be some degree of interdependence among top team members focused on their own areas (production and sales functions must cooperate to some extent). But silo working by members of the top team can create the opposite of synergy with members competing for resources and seeking to undermine each other....
