70 The Strategic Planning Workbook perhaps even conflicting, needs that start to appear. If this happens it is a signal that this group is a composite of several different stakeholders, and you need to create a different set of headings.) The implication of having these needs for your business; put this in column four. The question to ask here is: `What do we need to do and what will it cost to meet these needs?' The interrelationships between the stakeholders; this goes in the final column of the table. So, for example, `unions' and `employees' may be separate stakeholders, but there is an interrelationship, or perhaps `key customers' are also `suppliers'. In this column list the other groups where a strong relationship exists. Once this information is clear, ask the group to identify if the stakeholder is: A A key player in the business, and their needs have to be largely/ wholly met in order to generate success. B A significant player, where perhaps all their needs have to be met some of the time, or some of their needs have to be satisfied all of the time, or perhaps they have the power to put significant barriers in the way of achieving success.
