633 61 employee engagement Purpose of the toolkit A high level of employee engagement is the Holy Grail sought by management everywhere. But they are not always clear about what engagement is, what drives engagement and what to do about it. The aim of this toolkit is to clarify these points as a basis for action. The toolkit contains the questionnaires, check- lists and examples of surveys that define the journey required to enhance engagement, as illustrated in Figure 61.1. It is often defined as `willingness to go the extra mile', but there are many more detailed definitions to choose from; Exhibit 61.1 sets out a number of them. Select or adapt one that most closely fits what is believed to be the process of engagement in the organization.
