Presentations to Clients 227 with an extravagance of animations and transitions. They are likely to irritate rather than impress the client. Unless you are really adept and practised in using the technology, avoid tricks and devices such as trying to control the sequence of slides by signals beamed from your mobile phone. If things go wrong, you will look foolish and the presentation will get off to an unconvincing start. Bids for contracts overseas may require you to give presentations to clients whose first language is not English. Like the text of the bid, the content of the presentation should be free of informal expressions and unexplained references ­ for example, to `Natural England', `GPs', `QCFs', `TFI training' ­ that may leave the client wondering what on earth you mean.
