About the Author John H. McConnell, SPHR, is director of employee and labor relations for the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and president of McConnell-Simmons and Company, Inc., a management consulting firm located in Morristown, New Jersey, specializing in human resources products and services. He has held a num- ber of human resources executive positions with Capital Holding, M & M/Mars, Garan, Inc., and Wolverine Tube Division of Calumet and Hecla. He has under- graduate and graduate degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He has written over two dozen books on management and human resources, many published by AMACOM, and has been a frequent speaker at AMA seminars, the AMA Management Course, and national and international human resources con- ventions.
