54 GETTING UP TO SPEED FIGURE 4.1 Assumption Check-In Bias/Assumption/Stereotype: military veterans are rigid and inflexible. Growing up, I had an uncle who made us do things a certain way and it had to be just ­so, like if we borrowed his tools we had to put them back in the exact same place we took them from and he would get really mad if we misplaced or left them out. When/where did I learn this to be true? Looking at it now, what evidence tells me it is, in fact, true? I have met lots of military service members over the years who were like my uncle in this way.
