FIVE: Teamwork > TEAM TALK

TEAM TALK

In my experience there are a number of important issues relating to teams. In fact, although these points relate to teams, most work on a personal, individual level and will also improve personal performance. Indeed, many are covered in more depth elsewhere in this book.

Define Clear Objectives

If we define objectives as something sought after and aimed for, then it stands to reason that we should be clear about them. A team must define its objectives so that the entire team is agreed on what it wants to achieve, and also on how it is going to achieve it.

The clarity of the objectives is the key. For example, someone in the family may say, ‘We need to be happier.’ It sounds great, but it’s meaningless if ‘happier’ is not adequately defined. A better goal is: ‘We need to be happier by spending more time together.’
