Chapter 4: Lighting > Setting Up Environments

Setting Up Environments

A good environment can be key to the success of a rendered image. An environment can provide light, color, and subtle reflection to help ground the subject. To see the effect of an environment, you will use some of the environments that ship with modo and apply them to the model used in the previous section.

Start by disabling the Spot Lights in your scene and enable global illumination by clicking the Enable check box for Indirect Illumination. At first, nothing will happen because there is nothing illuminating the scene. To quickly see the effects of global illumination, go to the Environment section and double-click on an environment. Start with a simple studio environment because this will make it easier to make adjustments to the textures. The image in Figure 4.25 uses the environment Black Studio 01.
