BONUS CHAPTER 12: Quick Start— 3ds Max 4... > Tutorial: Adding a Moon Prop

Tutorial: Adding a Moon Prop

The space background works to a small degree, but to really show off the motion of your spaceship, you need another background element in the scene. The moon model has been created (using a simple sphere primitive), mapped with one of the default materials, and saved as a separate file.

To load and position the moon prop, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Application Button image Import image Merge menu command. This opens a file dialog box. Locate and open the Moon.max file in the Bonus Chapter 12 directory on the CD.
  2. In the Merge dialog box that opens, shown in Figure 11, select the Sphere01 object and click OK.
  3. Choose File image Save As to open the Save File As dialog box, name the file Spaceship and moon, and click Save.

FIGURE 11 The Merge dialog box lets you add objects saved in other files to the current scene.
