Transporting Your Portable Studio
Now that you’re geared up with the basic supplies, you need to make sure that you can actually transport your portable studio. Even with the basics, that’s still a good deal of gear to carry around. How do you do it?
Well, it’s safe to say you already have a camera bag, so I won’t cover those. Some light stand kits and background stands come with their own bag (see Figure 5.9). However, these aren’t always the best solution, nor do they seem to last as long as other options. Some products don’t even fit in the bag that comes with them.
I frequently travel to different countries to shoot for various organizations, and I’m still trying to find the perfect bag for various pieces of equipment. I use a Calumet light stand bag at present, but I might switch to something a bit roomier with more padding, such as the Tamrac 328. Don’t feel limited to shopping from camera product manufacturers — the perfect solution may come from elsewhere. The bottom line: use what works for you.
