Chapter 10: Keywords and Site Architecture > Step 5: Wireframes and Prototyping

Step 5: Wireframes and Prototyping

Now that you have a site structure with all of the pages mapped to your top keywords, you can start the process of developing a wireframe or prototype for the content. This will need to be done for each page of your site. A wireframe is basically a schematic representation of your website that houses the navigation, functionality, and page content. The process of developing a wireframe in the planning stage enables top-level functionality to be viewed and tested prior to any development that takes place.

The wireframing process is a great way for you and others to view the site’s information flow before going to production. There are many tools out there that can help you with this process. The one I use is ProtoShare (www.protoshare.com). Figure 10-8 and Figure 10-9 show four stages of a wireframe: Lo-Fi, Med-Fi, Hi-Fi, and Comp.
